Tsai Wan-sik Novel Study

The foundation of comical aesthetics is pretty deep in Korean literature. There have deep interrelations between ironic spirit of Chae Mansik's novel and traditional comical aesthetics of Korean literature. Chae Mansik's work not only inherits Korean traditional literature, but also shows the possibility that can use traditional literature technique in modern literature.Chae Mansik is a representative writer in Korean modem literature history. He is expert in reflecting social reality and author's intension by using ironic technique. Chae Mansik's ironic literature is the most noteworthy creative method which overcomes Korean literature crisis under Japanese colonial domination. He reflects the social reality under colonial domination through ironic technique.So far, there have a lot of people have studied Chae Mansik's novel. However, most people were rest on studying ironic technique or understanding on attitude. Base on previous research, this thesis will study author's ironic literature spirit. In the thesis, ironic technique of Chae Mansik's novel is not only a writing technique, but combine with author's literature spirit.In that way show the importance of Chae Mansik's literature in Korean modem literature.
