Buddhist Culture is very important to the research of the Japanese Culture and the Japanese Literature. It is also 10 centuries that the Buddhism was introduced into Japan. While the Buddhism has having effects on the Japanese society, it has been affected by Japanese society, too. Consequently, Japanese Buddhism has been born. Therefore, we shouldn't disregard Buddhist Culture and Buddhist Literature when we research Japanese Culture and Japanese Literature.Hosshinshūis the collections of Buddhist narratives which has affected the Buddhist Literature late to it. It is wrote by Kamo no Chōmei who was a famous Japanese author, poem (waka), and essayist.The era that Kamo no Chōmei was living in is a very important part of the Japanese History. It is from the end of the Heian era to the beginning of the Kamakura era. One side the Buddhism got abroad among the Japanese society, the other side the family system was coming into existence. Then, how was situation between the Buddhist priest and his family in the era?A great part of Hosshinshūis the story according parents and children. This paper takes these stories as the center, combining the situation from the end of the Heian era to the beginning of the Kamakura era, comparing with the source, intend to explain the relationship between the act that to be a Buddhist priest and filial piety.
