The compilation of course book is composed of three parts:text, grammar notes, practice. Among them text is the most important part. And controlling new vocabulary is the crucial part in compiling the text. Therefore, the thesis aims at sorting out the"A, B, C and D"vocabulary grade for the four Preliminary TCSL Reading Course, and the quantity of the words beyond teaching program; evaluating the level of difficulty for each text and the average level for each Course; comparing the difficulty level of the vocabulary among the four textbooks.Based on above statistics, SLA theories, psychological theories and textbook compilation principles, the thesis aims to evaluate the problems and offer suggestions for textbook compilation.The thesis on the basis of quantitative analysis explores the factors relating to difficulty level of vocabulary, and then introduces the methods of controlling the vocabulary difficulty level of Premilinary TCSL Reading Course from two aspects. The first is to increase the amount of reading materials in order to impress students with repeated new vocabulary. The second is to relate reading materials to the topics among student's comprehension and preference. In a word, the two aspects should be integrated in the compilation of Premilinary TCSL Reading Course, and hereby improve practical ability of teaching and language level of foreign students.
