In the early Ming Dynasty, the poem school in the middle of Fujian Province imitated the style and prosody of Tang poems, which had the significance of correcting defects at the time, and great enlightened effect on the poem world of Ming Dynasty poetry characterized by respecting Tang and backing to the ancients. Its main members were called ten gifted scholars, which include Lin Hong, Gao Bing, Chen Liang, Wang Gong, Zheng Ding, Tang Tai, Wang Cheng, Wang Bao, Zhou Xuan, and Huang Xuan. They responded each other showing the popm and far-reaching influence. Lin Hong was their leader, Gao Bing was the theoretical representative. The two of them in a sense represent the style of the poem school in the middle of Fujian Province.Lin Hong's life was divided into four periods:the period of reading and touring, the period as a teacher of Confucianism in the Jiangle County, the period as a Yuanwailang at the Board of Ritual, and the period of resigning and going back to Fujian. After resigning, he quickly became the center of Fujian literati. His friendship objects included the elder, friends, disciples and lovers. The themes of his poems include pursuing the fame, emotion, parting, time, worry, seclusion, nostalgia, etc. His poems have sincere feelings, with a high aesthetic value. The Poetic Style is fresh and refined. Although having the simulated trace, his poems mostly have the personal characteristics, long and deep flavor. The styles of his poems are powerful, heroic, elegant, etc.Gao Bing's life is divided into two periods at the town and in Nanjing. He taughtfor a living in the hometown, and he was keen on writing poetry and selecting poetry. Gao Bing, Zheng Ding, Chen Liang, Wang Gong, and Lin Hong formed the climate of respecting Tang poetry in Fujian Province. He wrote "Xiao Tai set" and compiled "The Collection of Tang Poems"("The Complement of Tang Poems" attached).In the first year of Yongle (1402) he went to Beijing, and relations were greatly increased. He wrote "Mu Tian Qing Qi set" and compiled "The Collection of pure Tang Poems". His existing poems are more than 1,400, and most are about friendship and parting, landscape, seclusion, praising the officials and court. His poems simulated the Tang poems, whose styles are various——gloomy, elegant, tragic, and so on. Most early poems are fresh, ancient and far-reaching, but later poems are tedious. So that his poems went to similar to the Taige and the rhyme did not exist.The poetics of Gao Bing and Lin Hong not only spread over three hundred years in Fujian Province, but also affected the poetics in the Ming Dynasty and poetry writing to a certain extent. Two collections of Tang poems more comprehensively reflected the poetics of the poem school in the middle of Fujian Province, and provided the most authoritative study of the model, so that they became the textbook for students in the Zhengtong years.
