County Recorded Things In The Tang Dynasty

The study of the county administration is a very important aspect in the historic research of political system in Tang Dynasty, but it is still the weak part in the study of the history of Tang Dynasty. Historians are mainly concentrating on the study of Li Zheng, Cun Zheng and Xu Li class. And on the study of officers in county, they are concentrating on the study of Xian Ling, Cheng, Zhu Bu and Wei. In this paper, we will regard Lu Shi in county as the research object, and studies its establishment, job description, possible candidate and way of promotion systematically. Then we will discuss their social position and influences on the administrative programme in county.The paper is divided into four chapters:ChapterⅠIntroduction:this part introduce the Lushi's establishment and appointment. Its establishment is more stable in earlier period than in later period. After "the An Shi Rebellion", there are many feudal separatist rules, and the establishment of Lushi changed greatly.ChapterⅡintroduction:this part discuss the Lushi's possible candidate and way of promotion systematically. I mainly use epitaphs materials to analyze this problem. It's very different between the capital county and the ordinary county. The former one's candidates mainly come from the Ling Shi, Zhou Zuo, and so on, the latter one almost comes from the bureaucrat family. The way of Lushi's promotion is almost happens its own system, and always are dominated by the bureaucrat family.The third chapter discuss the Lushi's responsibilities. It's administrative responsibilities are dealing with office documents, county kitchen things, pen and paper affairs. I also discuss the Lushi'salary, and there are differences between capital county and ordinary county. Lushi of the ordinary county have many illegal incomes. After the reform in late Tang Dynasty, the household tax becomes to the only income.Chapter IV analyzes the Lushi's social position and influences on the administrative programmer in county. In Tang Dynasty, the Lushi's social position is very low, and has a very embarrassing status.
