The thesis studies on the porcelain from tombs of Tang and Song dynasty in two capitals cities and their environs. By collecting porcelain wares, studies are carried on in compartmentalizing the collected porcelain wares, searching some wares'origination, development, vanishment and the like, further more, researching in funeral custom. The paper collecting all the available material and categorizing them, so as to get an impersonal conclusion, based on the sorted material. And it is the way the paper does a different job compare with other archaeological disquisitions. Except the Statistic Method, Multi-evidence Method is used in the thesis, to arrange and compartmentalize the excavated porcelain, by discovering and using all the available message from tombs. In the research of porcelain styles, the Typology Method is used to distinguish some subtle styles and originate some porcelain styles and get back the lost stage of some porcelain styles.By the study, some new points come out. First, a new staging way comes forth, which incorporates the material of the two places, and divides all the porcelain styles into five stages. It has defect in exactitude, but get a much macroscopical point, and more than this, it make up the shortage of material. Secondly, it makes the developing track of some porcelain ware clearer, and corrects some wrong knowledge about the development of some porcelain. Thirdly, by the study of historical books, tombs and excavated porcelain, some funeral custom and the reason why it changed in different stages are known.The thesis includes three chapters. The first chapter is about the research on some porcelain styles excavated in the two capitals area. It is divided into three sections. In the first section, all the porcelain styles are mentioned, of which, some confusing porcelain styles are renamed. The second section is the deep research on some main porcelain styles including pots, bowls, Tuohu (Chinese ancient spittoons), and Zhuzi (Chinese ancient flagons). The third section makes a simple study on some not-so-important porcelain styles.The second chapter is about the staging on the excavated porcelain, witch is divided into three sections. First section has staged the two dynasties into five periods. The second section tells how to stage.The third section is mainly about the characteristics of every period.The third chapter is about the changing rules of funerary porcelain and the reason why it changed. It is divided into three sections. The first section studies in the quantity. The second section studies in the changes of combination. The third section studies in the changes of ceramic glaze.
