The damages which corruptions cause to the economy and society are always concerned by all countries in the world. Premier Wen Jiabao pointed out anti-corruption, of which the extent has been strengthened these years, will be one of the main missions for government in the following Five-Year.As the rising of the internet, the power of anti-corruption draws more attentions with the pace of government's anti-corruption. The emergence of some cases of anti-corruption through the internet makes the public know its power in curbing corruptions. And the government begins to try taking use of the new methods of anti-corruption. But there are few researches about this topic now. As a result, it is important to study how the internet curb corruptions.Based on provincial panel data from 2004 to 2008 in China, we analyzed the effects of internet development on corruptions from the aspects of internet supervision and e-government. We find that some kinds of netizens who often use Blog and BBS are the main power taking internet supervision. It is exposing bribery information to public by internet that netizens can deter the officials from corruptions. We also find that e-government can improve the sharing of information and public participation, which help to decrease rate of corruptions. The transparence of information is bad news to corruptions.Following the empirical study, we take the case analysis using some cases of anti-corruption through internet in order to find out the mechanism of internet supervision. It points out that the public would better expose corruptions on the internet rather than report them to the government because of its anonymity and press power. The information of corruptions on the internet can draw great attention from the public and will attract the media's report which can bring more public voice. Under the powerful public voice, higher authorities would investigate it. It makes the local government punish the corrupt officials as soon as possible. With the expectation that internet supervision would bring great public attention, local government usually makes correct and prompt response to the corruptions reported on the internet before the intervention of media and higher authorities. In the end, we give some suggestions on how to curb corruptions by way of the internet. Further improving internet environment and the combination of internet supervision and e-government will be good news to the situation of anti-corruption in China.
