Ethno-social structure and area of distribution is one of the most important sections studied by anthropology, ethnology and sociology. But despite of the fact that a large base on the ethno-social structure and area of distribution of Buryats has been created, many questions remain scarcely explored. In particular, the theme of the changes in the ethno-social structure and the area of distribution of the Western Buryats in 17-19 centuries is touched little. Therefore there is a need to study the changes in the ethno-social structure and the area of distribution of the Western Buryats as ethno-territorial group of Buryat ethnos. The main problem in the study of ethno-social structure is to identify those components that formed the modern Buryat ethnos, which were the initial components, at which time they were part of communities, later became members of the Western Buryats. It remains an open question about the time of forming the Buryat tribes into a single nation. The author of this paper chose the period between the ages of 17-19, as during this period the processes of global change of Buryat society, ethno-social structure and the distribution area caused by the influence of the administrative system of the Russian state and its aggressive policy were taking place. The study of these processes is necessary for the resolution of questions of formation and development of the Western Buryats. All of the above determines the relevance of the chosen research topic. This work is devoted to changing ethno-social structure and the area of distribution of the Western Buryats in the period from 17th to 19th century. In our opinion, the study of ethno-social structure and the area of distribution of the Western Buryats in the period from 17th to 19th centuries is of great importance for the Mongolian studies in China and as a whole for Mongolian studies. It should be noted that the study of the changes of ethnosocial structure and distribution area cannot be divorced from history, geography and toponymy. The study gives a factual basis to confirm the dominant role of specific factors of the Russian state policy in respect of indigenous peoples, in this case, the Buryats, of the change of the ethno-social structure and the area of distribution of the Western Buryats in this period. Also, the important role was played by internal factors, i.e. relocation of certain groups of the Buryats were not due to the influence from the outside, and was caused by internal factors-the contradictions, various conflicts, etc.The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that it is a further step in the study of ethno-social structure and distribution area of Buryats. For the first time in Chinese anthropology it is attempted to conduct a comprehensive study of ethno-social structure and distribution area of the Western Buryats. This study will contribute to further, more in-depth study of ethnic processes in the Pribaikal region and in the Mongolian ethnic groups as a whole. The aim of this work is a comprehensive study of changes in the composition of ethno-social structure and distribution area of Western Buryats, from 17 to 19th centuries, as well as identifying the dynamics and characteristics of this change.Object of study. The object of this study is ethno-territorial group of western Buryats. In this paper, the research object, i.e. "Western Buryats", limited only by the geographical indication. Buryats living in this area are speakers of the Ekhirit-Bulagatsky, Alar-Tunkinsky dialects and of the Nizhneudinsky subdialect. In writing this report, the author used the following research methods:1) The method of field research (field data collection); 2) The method of working with archival documents (the study of archival material); 3) Complex method (synthesis of material and sources); 4) The descriptive method; 5) The analytical method. The work consists of the introduction, three chapters and the conclusion.
