Started from September 15 th, 1936, the diplomatic negotiation represented by Zhang Qun and Chuanyue Mao was the last one held before the overall Anti-Japanese War broke out, and it was also the longest and toughest. In this 83-day negotiation, the Nanking National Government behaved as an equal negotiator for the first time and tried to avoid the war with peaceful means. However, conflicts between China and Japan in Northern China make the negotiation broke down at last, which indicated the failure of the Nanking National Government to avoid war with Japan by negotiation. The government had not foreseen the Japanese goal of invading the whole China, and last but not least, it had not reached the goal of postpone the breakout of the war. The failure had much to do with the preparations and negotiation skills of Nanking National Government.
