The purpose of this thesis is to discuss the Sino-Japanese relations' actual developing status after the diplomatic normalization and make people know more about their past, present, and future, so that we can adjust our strategic policy constructively to serve the modernization of china. The diplomatic normalization of the Sino-Japanese relations in 1972, is an epoch-making event in the Sino-Japanese relations' history. The capitalistic civilization starting from Europe in about 1500 have changed the global history and urged the Sino-Japanese relations into a modern phase. The former period of that phase was characterized by the Japanese invasion into China and the Chinese revolution against the Japanese oppressors, and the latter was a cold war confrontment. Induced by the capitalism's expansion, the globalization surged wave upon wave in the latter 20th century, leading to the diplomatic normalization of the Sino-Japanese relations, which change the two countries' relations ultimately, and made them into the new styles of equality, amity, and peace from thousands of years' inequality and the hostility and rivalry in modern history. The Sino-Japanese relations had roughly passed through three periods, naming Breakthrough Period (1972-1978), Honeymoon Period (1978-1989) and Adjusting Period (1989-1998), from 1972 when the Sino-Japanese diplomatic relations normalized to 1998, the 20 years' anniversary of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Amity Treaty's endorsement. The two countries' governments made an allied declaration in September 1972, announcing the end of the two countries' warfare time and the diplomatic normalization of their relations. Because the declaration couldn't replace the treaty according to the legislation proceedings, the two countries' governments signed the Sino-Japanese Peace and Amity Treaty in August 1978, which lasted six years long, showing its difficulty. Why was it so difficult to sign the treaty? Where was the sticking point? How to resolve this problem? Those questions are the topics of the first period. The Sino-Japanese relations headed-on the Honeymoon Period in 1980's because of many favorable factors after the endorsement of the Sino-Japanese Peace and Amity Treaty. During this period, the two countries' high-level leaders had frequent visits with each other, a series of conferences, institutions and system came into reality, and the two countries' friendly relations went forward in every field. During the post-cold war period, their relations went on developing healthfully, at the same time, appeared a new adjustment, for example, the deepening of the economic intercourse, the cultural misunderstanding, the rub and conflict in politics, and so on.We should seize the positive and negative factors too, which influence the Sino-Japaneserelations. Firstly, this thesis examines the positive side: (1) the leaders of new China, including Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Dong Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin, have done hard work to improve the two countries' relations; (2) the Japanese general goal of getting friendly relations with China is not changed, even though its China-policy has a frequent adjustment; (3) the economic cooperation is a great power to further the friendly development of the Sino-Japanese relations; (4) the cultural intercourse plays a positive role in the new period, which was an impetus to the diplomatic normalization of the Sino-Japanese relations. Secondly, it examines the negative side from several aspects, including the historical issues, the developing tendency of the U.S.-Japan Alliance, the Taiwan issues, the territorial and oceanic rights, and especially pointing out that the historical and Taiwan issues are the most dangerous factors to worsen the Sino-Japanese relations. At the joint of the 20th and 21st century, those factors are changing continuously, and the new mechanism is forming, leading to a more uncertainty of the two countries' relations, for example, the intercourse is developing further in economy, culture and other fields , on the other hand, t...
