Harbin, The Metropolitan Development Strategy

Today, in the period of high level economic development and high-speed urbanization, the Metropolitan Region or Metropolitan Area will become the main form of cities development in china. For this reason .based on the theories of urban geography, regional economic geography, urban economics and development economics , and referencing the domestic and overseas theories and experiments of practices about the urban region , this paper synthetically researches the Great Metropolitan Region of Harbin and designs the stratagems for the development of its future.Firstly, based on the analysis of the concept of the Metropolitan Region, this paper reasonably defines the Great Metropolitan Region of Harbin.Secondly, the paper generalizes the histories of thesocioeconomic development and the urban system of the Region,and analyses the background and the conditions that wouldinfluence the development of this Region in the future.The third part and the forth part are the corn of this paper. In the third part, the author analyses the spatial structure and function, the period and level of the economical development, of the Great Metropolitan Region and summarize the problems and the limiting factors which restrict its development.Finally, in forth part, this paper designs the developmental stratagem of the Great Metropolitan Region of Harbin including the ideas of the space structure, the foundational establishment and the environments protection, and brings forward the pivotal measures to realize them.
