Things have changed much since China launched her reform since late 1970s. The private businesses are playing more and more important role in the Chinese economy. While the advancement of information technology leads the world economy to a new stage, globalization and innovation become more and more popular in today's international business. Competition among businesses is becoming more and more fierce. It's time for most of the private companies to upgrade their business. And human resource is the key factor for them to gain advantage in competition. This thesis aims at how to achieve advantages through improving human resource management when the Chinese private companies upgrade their business.This thesis consists of five chapters:Chapter one-the present HRM situation in the Chinese private companies. This chapter traces the brief history and development of Chinese private business, and displays the current situation of human resource management with 15 factors of HRM index.Chapter two-the dilemma and outlet of HRM in Chinese private business, analyzes the difficulties of Chinese private companies facing with in HRM, such as short of competent employees, difficult to attract and select such employees, and indicates that management innovation is a key power in gaining competitiveness.Chapter three-HR strategy formulation and implementation, depicts the relationship of HRM strategy with organization objectives and strategic competition in the first part. And with the strategic HRM theories, taking account of practical development of the Chinese private businesses, this chapter examines the HRM strategies formulation practice at the different stages in upgrading processes. As a conclusion of this chapter, the relationship between HRM strategies and business strategies is by far emphasizedChapter four, as a tool of gaining competitive strategy, HRM practices in the Chinese private firms are fully discussed through selection, training and development, rewarding and motivation, and performance evaluation, focusing on training and development.The final part of this thesis, as a conclusion, points out that innovation of human resource management theory and practice are influenced by the changes of global economy, politics, society and culture. Management regulation and development are crucial when the Chinese private firms are upgrading their business.
