Biological products belong to a special category of drug and are mainly applied to prevent diseases. In addition, they can be used for diagnosis and treatment of disease. Since the foundation of People's Republic of China in 1949, especially after reform and openness, the enterprise of biological products in our country has made great progress in their development and played very important role of preventing and controlling the disease outbreaks and epidemics. It made great contribution to the people's health, too. Reserved by the government as special drug and products for military purpose, disasters relief, disease prevention and treatment, the biological products are manufactured and distributed by 6 state-owned biological institutes according to the national plan. With the development of biological technology, the related enterprise grows rapidly and becomes the hot spot of international market competition together with the information industry. The boom of market-oriented economy makes not only the quantity of biological manufacturers and the category of products increase dramatically, but the replacement of the older generation of products by new ones accelerated. It is very obvious that the supply is bigger than the demand. The 6 state-owned biological institutes can no longer monopolize the development, manufacture and distribution of biological products. The competition is becoming sharper under the condition that China had only tariff and policy barriers left to stop the foreign manufactures and products from pouring in the domestic market after becoming a member state of WTO.The thesis is providing the analysis of the professional features, the present conditions and the scale of market of biological production and also forecasts the developing trends of biological products. It focuses on describing the opportunities and challenges faced by the domestic manufacturers after China acceding to WTO. Based on above analysis, the thesis gives us the following recommendations on the developing strategy of domestic biological production. Firstly, the national policies should be favorable to accelerate the progress of composing enterprise groups capable of international competition and readjusting the industrial set-up. Secondly, the enterprises should put the highest priority to technology in order to improve the capability of competition. Thirdly, the State Drug Administration should push by force the application of the GMP authentication. Moreover, ordered competition of market should be encouraged and guaranteed. Finally, it is recommended in the thesis that the biological products manufacturers improve their capability ofinternational competition by appropriate combination, fairly large-scale management, market partitioning, readjusting industrial set-up and cultivating competition ability at the core of the enterprise.
