The thesis intends to unveil the important position and function of the religion education in Germany's ethics education by examining the contents, methods, channels and characteristics of the religion education in modern Germany.In Germany, religion education and ethics education have their own deep-rooted historic origin and are closely interconnected. Originated from church schools before Mid-Century, religion education has been on the path towards formalization after religion reform movement, gradually beginning to become the formal curriculum in church and secular schools.After World War Second II ,Germany was divided into two parts, one of which, the former Western Germany, inherited the tradition of religion education, still viewing it as the essential element of the ethics education.The contents of religion education in modern Germany is more diverse than ever before, including religion worldview education, religion ethics education, and religion professionalism education. The methods applied in religion education include family, school, society education as well as religion rituals and church-sponsored activities. Secularization, socialization and modernization are the major development trends witnessed in German religion education, which is now more closely connected with social charitable causes and its audiences and methods are more diversified and its influence increasingly global.Religion education is the main instrument as well as the main element for the ethics education in Germany. Religion education has played such crucial functions as masses integration, motivation support, regulation orientation and character fostering in the development process of ethics education in Germany.
