This thesis aims at systematic research on the relationship of science and technology and sustainable development. This thesis constructs, by employing both the methods of the framework analysis and system model, an academic framework reflecting non-equilibrium sustainable development itself and the interacting mechanism between science and technology and sustainable development. Hence it provides basic preparation and academic support for the equilibrium analysis of China's sustainable development and for the research on the relationship between science and technology and sustainable development as well as the route selection in China. This thesis belongs to the research of canonical economics. It is composed of five chapters with more than 40,000 words:The first chapter is introduction and summarization. In the first place it reviews theoretically the history, status quo and tendency of the sustainable development worldwide. Based on this, considering the status quo of sustainable development in China, it puts forward a proposition that importance should be attached to the effects on sustainable development of science and technology and the interacting mechanism between them. The second chapter, by constructing a framework model of three dimensions, discusses separately the non-equilibrium character of sustainable development on the conception of time span and range, based on which it puts forward an initiative viewpoint that "Temporary non-equilibrium development is the expression form and the means of long-time equilibrium sustainable development", gives suggestions for non-equilibrium development, and so inaugurate a new route to realize sustainable development. The third chapter establishes the academic system model of the relationship between science and technology and sustainable development, under which it establishes respectively the applied subsystem, effect-releasing subsystem and inspiring and supporting subsystem in order toexpatiate on the three main issues about the relationship between science and technology and sustainable development: (1) What is it? Namely what penetrative effects science and technology have on such factors as economy, society and ecology in the sustainable developmental system; (2) How is that? Namely how do these penetrative effects occur? And clarify the effects-releasing mechanism of science and technology on sustainable development and the interacting mechanism between them); (3) How to do? Namely what methods and measures should be taken to inspire and support the developments of such science and technology that can advance sustainable development. And several policy suggestions are also given on the basis of academic analysis. The fourth chapter, by introducing the above general analysis framework into the practise in China, mainly discusses the pattern of China and analyzes briefly the relationship between science and technology and sustainable development in China. The fifth chapter summarizes the findings of the research mentioned above.
