1.Background of this academic thesisUnder the principle of comparative advantage in international trade, every country should focus their scarce resources on the products having comparative advantages, and at the same time, import those that have comparative disadvantages. As one of "Three Pillars", the WTO is the most authoritative economic organization formalizing and coordinating relationship of international trade. With plenty of opportunities, the entrance into the WTO will accelerate globalization of domestic banking industry. As a coin has two sides, it also brings great impact on the market structure and mode of management, even the development of domestic banking industry.2.The purpose and meaning of this academic thesisEmphasis of this thesis is placed on the research on feasible strategies in face of the WTO. Since China has become a member of the WTO, the competitive structure in the financial market has come into being. As the backbone of China's banking, the top four state-owned commercial banks, i.e., the ICBC, the ABC, the Bank of China and the Construction Bank of China, play a key role in stabilizing economy and policy, promoting economic development. As the author shows, on one hand, the state-owned commercial banks have a variety of comparative advantages. On the other hand, foreign banks are also confronted with some difficulties at present. Analysis of strategies is focused on comparisons in respective advantages and disadvantages. 3. Basic clue and Logic structure of this thesisThis thesis is based on Economics, Finance, the theory of international trade and Development Economics, and explores the development track of the state-owned commercial banks.Firstly, this thesis explains the tenet, principle, and the main functions of the WTO, and details the rights with which China will be endowed and obligations to which China will be subject as a member of the WTO. Secondly, the impact on domestic commercial banks and opportunities arising from its entrance into the WTO are analyzed in detail. Finally, a series of policies, which can be applied to cope with the influences engendering from the entrance into the WTO, are put forward.4. Main contents and viewpointsThis thesis consists of four parts. In the first part, after introducing the WTO's agreements briefly, the author discusses many crucial roles played by the WTO in expanding the production and trade of goods and services, taping more efficiently world resources, raising the quality of life and promoting balanced and sustainable development of various countries all over the world. In the second part, the development opportunities and the competitive advantages of China's banking are analyzed. In the third part, after discussing the operating status quo and problems of the state-owned commercial bank in China, the author analyzes the impact on the state-owned commercial banks arising from the entrance into the WTO. Chapter one: A brief introduction to the WTO and the Agreement on financial services. Firstly, the WTO is briefed. The WTO was established at Jan 1,1995 whose forerunner was the GATT. It is a multilateral agreement among governments on tariffs and trade policies, aiming at cutting down the tariffs and reducing the trade friction. Secondly, introducing the document system and content about banking under the WTO. Finally, there is anintroduction about some commitment and responsibilities within financial service area of China as a member of the WTO. Chapter two: These opportunities of the state-owned commercial banks arising from the entrance into WTO. Section 1: analyze the competitive capability of the state-owned commercial banks from three parts. Taking into consideration of the evolution of system, the formation of efficient market pattern, native advantages, our banking has made progress, and built up its own image.
