With the rapid popularity of Information Technology in our country, the IT has came to be a real industry now, which could determine the competitive advantage of nations in some degree because of deeper and deeper economy globalization. As an important section of IT industry, the CIA (Customizing Internet Applications) industry is of unique importance in our software industry. This essay is supposed to benefit the development of our CIA industry by analyzing it with Value Chain Theory of Michael E·Porter.It has four different parts. First is to describe what are researched objective and methods. Second is to illuminate what's Porter's Value Chain Theory, and give positive analysis of the traditional industry and the CIA one respectively. Third is to make the analogous analysis of the American Model, Indian Model and our current conditions. Finally, give the development strategies based on the above mentioned for our CIA industry. It is developing as follows:Chapter One is the Exordium, which has three parts. First is to explain causes and aims of analysis of CIA industry. This-year's Sixteenth National Congress ascertains greater support to develop our software industry from now on, in which CIA industry is of special importance. However, most companies are not large enough to meet the challenges from foreign companies after entering WTO, and most of their businesses are in dire need of improving. Herein lies the answer to make CIA industry as my researched objective. In the same time, this essay comes up with practical development strategies for our CIA industry by theoretical and analogous analysis of American Model, Indian Model and Chinese one. Second is to define the CIA industry. Though there are many measures to classify software, here which is classified into three kinds based on usage scope: Operation System, General Internet Applications (GIA) and Customizing Internet Applications (CIA). In this essay, differences between GIA and CIA, such as different developing process and marketing strategies, are illustrated by making anti-virus software and customizing CRM software (Customer Relationship Management) as examples. Third is about analysis methods. One is integrating theory with practice, that is integrating Value Chain Theory with CIA industry. The other is analogous analysis, which includes the analogous analysis of America, India and China, and the analogous analysis between traditional industry and CIA industry.Chapter Two is analyzing CIA industry with Porter's Value Chain, which includes four parts. First is to introduce Michael E·Porter's Value Chain Theory, competitive framework and relationship between competitive advantage and value activities in value chain. In the Value Chain Theory, the basal activities and secondary ones are defined, which are main elements of value chain of one company. In the competitive framework, the following frameworks are introduced: Geographical Framework, Lognitudinal Framwork, Subdivisional Framework, and Industrial Framework. In competitive advantages, three basic strategies are introduced: Cost LeadershipStrategy, Differentiation Strategy and Focus Strategy. In the meantime, how competitive advantages come from value chain of one company is described here. Second is positive analysis by analyzing the general value chain and competitive advantages of one common company with the above theories. Here, the general analysis of business operating of Dell Computer is made, such as the basal activities including its special distribution way-Direct Sales, special ways of producing -Build-to-order Production, and providing customizing services to certain clients, and its secondary activities including logistics, R&D and fundamental equipments. Third is to analyze the competitive framework and value chain of the CIA industry with related theories.
