Mozi is the famous thinker and educationalist during the Spring and Warring States Period (770-221. B.C) in China's history. The background of his times. His unique life experiences and materialism contribute to the formation of his educational theory. Mozi strives to form a society of love without distinction but of mutual benefit, with serving all the people as the utilitarianism values of life, emphasizing the substantial social importance of material production and further creatively put forward the theory of human nature that man inclines to be influenced by its surroundings, and the theory of labour that only those who depend on themselves can survive.All these above lay a solid foundation for the formation of a perfect theory of moral education.But the previous study on the history of educational thought didn't go deep enough into Mozi's theory of moral education and is not comprehensive. It couldn't develop a systemic system of the theory of moral education and consequently couldn't precisely disclose the essence of the theory and its consequence.Herely. The author tries to comb and definite Mozi's educational system from its theoretical basis. Perfect content system and its modem significance, and gives it an evaluation.Mozi creates its particular educational theory system on the basis of his study on the confucianist Doctrines. The theory is broad and extensive, with love without distinction but of mutual benefit as its substance and aims at forming a society of the mass, plus his unique experiences of social life. Mozi creatively pats forward his moral ideal and puts it into practice by exerting it personally. In order to realize his ideal society, Mozi further put forward some concrete ideas such as respecting the scholars. No wars, no subjection to destiny, frugality and simple burials. To achieve better educational effects, he further on put forward some methods of moral education such as doing something initiative and doing while speaking, and principles of evaluation such as evaluation one according to one's will and behavior, further enriching and improving his thought system of moral education.In the author's opinion, though Mozi's thought of moral education emerged during the Spring and Warring States Period of China, and when the level of productive force can't be mentioned in the same breath with that of nowadays, seen from the point of view of historical development, the two distinctively different periods share remarkable semblance in the transformation of social relationships since the modern society is undergoing a period of transformation. Mozi's broad and extensive thought of education is of great help for us to get a further understanding oftraditional morality and moral education and form a thought system of moral education that's suitable for social development. The essence of Mozi's educational theory-love without distinction but of mutual benefit, and the practical spirit of morality further manifest the thought's powerful Vitality which is in keeping with social development.
