With the development of urban and economics, the needs for water industry are increasingly more stronger. Water industry holds more and more important position in national economy, and its development has vast prospects. At present municipal utilities open to all kinds of capital. The Chinese water industry is confronted with rare development opportunity brought by market progress. This thesis starts with the analysis of water industry discusses its importance and analyses the six main economic features. The thesis reviews the development history of Chinese water industry, and analyses the current situation especially six problems faced by current water industry. At the same time, this thesis analyses in detail the influence for water industry by utilities market oriented. It also discusses the developmental tendency for Chinese water industry in current situation.Then it analyses the constitution of Chinese water industry, especially analyses the rivalry among competing sellers in the water industry and the potential entry of new competitors such as the subject of investment or management or engineering or technique and so on. The thesis also analyses the water companies on stock market, private enterprises, overseas and domestic companies, etc. During the expression, the thesis talks about the competitive structure of Chinese water market and seven types of entry barriers. It also discusses two major roles of government in the competition of water market. With the analysis of business strategy for water enterprises, the thesis discusses management progress of business strategy, and studies with emphasis the progress of strategic analysis and strategic selection. As followed by analysing external environment (macroenvironment and microenvironment) and internal condition of water enterprises, this thesis discusses how to determine the internal key strategic factors and how to determine the strategic position. The thesis also introduces some kinds of investment pattern such as BOT and TOT and makes concrete analyzing on investment strategy of typic domestic and oversea water enterprises. When concerned about oversea water enterprises such as Suez, Veolia, RWE , it discusses the change of investment strategy in different courses including early and present phase. When talking about domestic water companies, in the case of Beijing Capital, it constructs the adjustment, orientation and establishment of strategy. All this above offers valuable reference for other companies.At last, this thesis analyses the progress of determining, cultivating and managing competitive advantage. It provides the analysis measures and methods. Through laying emphasis on the analysis of core competitive competencies and capabilities of different kinds of water enterprises, a conclusion can be drawn: the competitive advantage of water enterprises lies in building scientific and clear investment and management mechanism.
