By Resource-Based View of Firm, a firm's most Valuable, Rare, difficult-to-Imitate and Non-substitutable (VRIN) resources and capabilities are the source of its competitive advantage. However at the age of Network-based and Knowledge-based Economy, the outside environment and technological trends confronting the firms are of great uncertainty and complexity, so the heterogeneity of resources and competitive advantage are not sustained. Thus, firms need a capability to renew the resources and capabilities to sustain their competitive advantage. Dynamic Capability is such kind of capability as a extension of RBV in dynamic environment.This study, by analyzing the characteristics of Knowledge-base Firms and the new development in Knowledge Creation and Alliances and Networks theory, explores the construct of the dynamic capability of knowledge-base firms and raise the conceptual model and causal model of this capability. Then, a dynamic capability assessment system is elaborated and applied to 3 Chinese software ventures.The main work of this study as summarized as followed:(1) Develops a ontologic knowledge creation conceptual model and assessment framework of knowledge creation capability.(2) Builds a conceptual and causal model of the dynamic capability of knowledge-based firms.(3) Constructs the operational assessment system of dynamic capability based on theoretic model and apply it in the empirical study.
