Port Competitiveness Evaluation Model Construction And Application,

With the development of international economy and the continuous strengthening of global communication, the competition among the ports aggravates increasingly. With The expansion of the port function, the range of the port competitiveness changes rapidly. Under this circumstance, the research on the port competitiveness becomes especially important.The first part of the dissertation deals with the importance of port, and which analyzes the reason why the port competition took place, its characteristic and current situation on the basis of demarcating the definition of the port competitiveness, and then puts forwards the meaning of the research on port competitiveness.The second part of the dissertation mainly studies on the applying steps of Structure Equation Model (SEM), which has been used in the research of port competitiveness. During the process of index system determining, the author exerted the survey lists and reliability analysis on producing the port competitiveness index system, and improved the correction of the index system.Research on the reliability of experts' consultation opinion, which intends to obliterate the incompetent reliability index, reduce the subject factors of the experts' consultation opinion and enhance the scientific quality and reliability of the port competitiveness index system. The dissertation has set up the final system of port competitiveness index which consisting of 12 indexes reflecting the port competitiveness.After collecting a large number of relative calculated factors that obtained during past years, the author calculates the SEM by using the AMOS software. The results of calculation not only estimate the weightiness of each index during the competitiveness but also rank each port's competitiveness.Setting Shanghai, Qingdao and Ningbo as examples, the third part of dissertation applied SEM to make the evaluation to them.The last part of the dissertation provided some suggestions to enhance Shanghai, Qingdao and Ningbo's competitiveness on the base of the third part.The results showed that port operation environment, shipping conditions, port infrastructure, port management, port geographic and natural condition were the most important factors. The update ranking for these three ports are Shanghai, Qingdao and Ningbo. But the fastest increase of its competitivenessis Ningbo.The objective of the dissertation was to explore a scientific and feasible evaluation method for port's market competitiveness on the base of which ports could make their development strategies. The results showed that SEM, as the model for port competitiveness evaluation, was better than traditional evaluation methods on the both sides of theory and practice.
