The current privately-owned economy in China is a new economic element after the reform and has become an important part of the socialist market economy. Therefore the enquiry into the issues of the current privately-owned economy in China has become a significant issue of concern and study in government and theoretical circles. A great number of scholars at home and abroad have explored and analyzed extensively on the present state, nature, features and problems of the privately-owned economy, but there are still some issues that need a further study, especially the issue of the development of privately-owned economy for the reason that the issue is of great significance in that it concerns the growth of the privately-owned economy in the socialist market economy, i.e. this has to do with "giving full play to initiations of all walks of life in society and speeding up the development of productive force."?Therefore, the author takes the issue of the development of the privately-owned economy as the subject of enquiry in this dissertation. This dissertation can be classified into four parts. In the first part the historical process of the development of the current privately-owned economy is reviewed. In the second, the objective basis of the existence and development of the privately-owned economy is analyzed and the objective needs of the law is presented that the current existence and development of the privately-owned economy should accord with the productive force, which is the pressing needs of the development of the national economy and the objective requirements of the nature of socialism. In the third, new features in the development of the current privately-owned economy in China is analyzed. At the beginning the new features are presented from the perspective of productive force. Then the new features of the current privately-owned economy in China are studied in comparison with the current capitalist privately-owned economy from the broad perspective of productive relationship, namely, production, distribution, transaction and consumption. In the fourth, several major issues which need solution in the current development of the privately-owned economy are scrutinized, such as the issue of its investments; the issue of technical innovation and the issue of its development models. And the ways of solution are dealt with.Methodologically this dissertation takes Marxist dialectical materialism and historical materialism as the basic research methods, on the basis of which the scientific abstraction, comprehensive analysis and statistic analysis are utilized to study the current privately-owned economy in China. In the study of the current development of the privately-owned economy in China, some new insights have been identified in the dissertation. Firstly, the objective basis of the existence and development of the privately-owned economy has been explored not only from the perspective of the accordance of productive relationship with productive force and the promotion of the national economic development, but also from the perspective that the existence and development of the privately-owned economy is the objective requirements of the nature of socialism. Thus a better and deeper view can be had about the objective basis of the existence and development of the privately-owned economy. Secondly, the domestic theoretical circle can analyze the features of privately-owned economy from the perspective of productive force, productive relationship and their relation with other forms of economy, which is not sufficient in my own view. Therefore this dissertation makes an effort to make further enquiry into the new features of the current privately-owned economy on this basis, namely from the perspective of both productive force and the broad view of productive relationship, i.e. production, distribution, exchange and consumption, which is an overall observation of the features of the privately-owned economy from both perspectives of quality and quantity.
