After the "9-11" attack, Counter-terrorism and the combat of Weapons of Mass Destruction(WMD) are two strategic priorities of American foreign and security policies. Nuclear proliferation is the focus of American strategy to combat WMD. In this dissertation, I take American strategy to combat nuclear weapons as the thesis and use strategy analysis to make a detailed and comprehensive analysis.A strategy usually consists of three parts: strategy aims, guiding principles, strategy tools. In the first chapter, I explore the strategy aims of Bush administration's strategy to combat nuclear weapons, pointing out that "prevention" and "protection" are the two main aims. In the second chapter, I analyze the guiding principles of Bush's strategy to combat nuclear weapons. The basic principles of Bush administration's national security strategy offer guidelines for the formation and enforcement of its strategy to combat nuclear weapons. In the third chapter, I analyze the tools of the strategy to combat nuclear weapons. There are three tools or pillars: nonproliferation, counter -proliferation and consequence management. In the fourth chapter, I summarize the practices of Bush administration's strategy to combat nuclear weapons and point out the characteristics of its strategy. The conclusion of the dissertation is that Bush administration should make some adjustments to make its strategy more effective.
