In The West Family Pension Age Security System In China Exploration

Nowadays one of the most important issues China faced with is increasing aging population, and the choice of elderly supporting model has become a matter of great concern among the general public. General speaking, there are three kinds of elderly supporting models, which are family support ,social support and self reliance. In our daily life, however, self reliance is an indispensable aspact of both family support and social support. Therefore, it is better to catigarize elderly supporting models into family support and social support. Based on the above discussions, family support can be definited as an elderly supporting model which the old live on self reliance and benefit from a risk sharing mechanism between themselves and the other family members, especially the young .The risk sharing mechanism can be described as an wealth floating mechanism as well, which means one side can get support from the other when needed. However, most of us always emphasize only one side of this wealth floating, that is, the old get support from the young, and neglect the fact that the young get support in the past. Obviously, it is very important to point out this wrong belief. Proper definition is bound to serve as a firm base for my research on elderly supporting model. In transitional period, great change has taken place in China in terms of the economy, the society and the culture. The government has proposed to observe a social development model with Chinese characteristics. It goes without any doubt that, the exploration of elderly supporting model with Chinese characteristics will become urgent. Thus, the author try to make some contributions in writing this essay. This essay consists of a preface and three chapters: In the preface, I introduce the background and the methods used in this essay. China's traditional elderly supporting model has met great challenges in modern times. In order to form a right attitude towards these challenges, I use institutional analysis to make a comparative study between China's situation and western countries'. In the end, I take a proper standpoint to propose an elderly supporting system with Chinese characteristics. In the first chapter, I give a proper definition for family support, which serve as a base for the following research. Then, I introduce the challenges family support faced with in modern times, which are social transition, increasing aging population and impact from overseas culture. In the second chapter, I retrace the history of family support both of China and western countries. Then I make a comparative analysis and try to figure out the reasons behind the difference. In the third chapter, I give some proposals to the building of the elderly supporting system with Chinese characteristics. Of course, these proposals are based on the above discussions. Research essays on the exploration of the elderly supporting system with Chinese characteristics are extremely rare up to now. Nowadays one of the most important methods used in social science research is institution analysis. General speaking, new topic and new method in research usually lead to innovation. It is obvious that this essay has benefited from both a new topic and a new method.
