With the rapid development of China's economy and the gradual improvement of medical level, the average life of our country has been increased year by year. The problem of ageing is becoming serious, and the aging problem has been widely known by the academic and social residents of the community. The central committee of the communist party of China in October 2015,decided to open up a two-child policy. The number of children in the family has gradually become the focus of public concern. Therefore,it is of great practical significance and theoretical value to study the effect of children's structure on the elderly. In terms of the effect of supporting the elderly, scholars mainly from the spiritual and material two aspects,to evaluate the effect of supporting the elderly. However, most of the research is done from the perspective of pension, medical insurance, etc. The innovation point of this paper is to apply the evaluation index of effect of supporting the elderly to the research problem of this paper. There are many articles about the effect of the number of children in the family on the effect of supporting the elderly. But few articles discuss the efFect of the structure of children in the family on the elderly care.In this paper, the influence of children's structure on the effect of supporting the elderly is studied by the proportion of male offspring in the family as the structure of children in the family. At the same time, after making a full sample analysis of relevant variables, this paper also made a sample regression between urban residents and rural residents. This paper selects the latest interface data of CHARLS in 2015 to complete the research on this problem. In terms of the structure of family children, this paper measures the structure of children in the family from two aspects. They are the number of children in the family and the proportion of male offspring. In terms of the measurement of effect of supporting the elderly, this paper selects three indicators to evaluate the elderly's effect of supporting the elderly. They are in the past year, the amount of children's transfer payments to the elderly, whether the elderly can receive long-term care and the self-assessment about health of the elderly in the care of the elderly. In the aspect of control variables, this paper took control of the elderly age, gender, marital status, education, register, and income of the family. In the measurement method, this paper selects the normal least-squares method,Logit regression model and the sorting model to study the relationship between the children structure and the effect of supporting the elderly.Through empirical analysis, this paper mainly draws the following conclusions:Firstly,an increase in the number of children in the family is not able to significantly increase the elderly effect of supporting the elderly. Each additional child in the family will reduce the amount of transfer payments to the elderly by 481.30 yuan. The probability of long-term care for the elderly decreased by 10.80%.But the number of children did not significantly correlate with the health of the elderly.Secondly,The increase in the proportion of male offspring in the family can significantly increase the elderly's effect of supporting the elderly.Thirdly,The improvement of education level in the elderly can significantly increase the effect of supporting the elderly.Fourthly,There are significant differences between urban and rural areas, both in terms of family effect of supporting the elderly and economic level.
