On January 1,2005,WTO members will abolish all limits of textile quotas, which is regarded as a token of textile and costume industry entering the era of free trade quota. Looking back to china textile and costume industry, there are opportunities and challenges exist. Brand, quality and environment protection have become three points of challenging china textile and costume enterprises. The profit of textile and costume industry is becoming smaller and smaller because the prices of materials are up and the prices of textile products are down. Although the quota will be abolished after 2005,the prospects of our textile and costume export are not optimistic as we have expected because market shares do not change easily and the lower price competition from other textile industry countries forms new menace. Anti-dumping, special protection, technology standard and social clauses will become new trade barriers of the developed against the developing countries after the textile and costume quota is abolished. Textile quota abolishment will obviously make the growth of china textile and costume export. But we should correctly estimate how much benefits China get on earth. Trade protectionism is not willing to see that china will achieve more market shares. At the same time, China textile and costume export has accounted for larger market shares in the international textile and costume down-market. It is difficult to do more. We should timely change the opinion and keep our eyes on the up-market, among which we look for a new way.
