It is a combination of city with rural area, and agricultural economy plays an important role in the development of nation economy and society of Chongqing municipality. Since 1997, the agricultural mechanization has developed rapidly. This article researches into the development issues, such as the social and economy environment, the actuality and features, as well as the problems existing; and on this base, developmental strategies of agricultural mechanization of Chongqing municipality have been put forward.As the article shows, since 1997, great improvement have been achieved which can be characterized by the steady increase of the total volume of agricultural machinery, the annual improvement of agricultural mechanization level, the increase of input and the rapid development of service organization as well as agricultural machinery industry. By the end of 2004, the total farm machinery of Chongqing municipality has amounted to 72,831,000 kilowatt in power, and more than 2,000,000 in sets. The comprehensive agricultural mechanization level is 5.09%. There are more than 4,183,000 agricultural machinery service organizations. The total income amounts to 4.3 billion RMB; and the agricultural machinery industry has produced 1,000,000 sets with 2 billion RMB production value. Compared to the year of 1997, each index has increased a lot.However, the agricultural mechanization of Chongqing is behind the other provinces of china due to its late development and poor infrastructure. The comprehensive agricultural mechanization level ranks No.3 from the bottom up of the nation.
