Nowadays most countries actively develop diplomatic space for state interests through active foreign policy. Diplomatic space is the room where foreign subjects interact, select and compromise in certain frame of international system. Whether the relationship between the diplomatic subjects and other diplomatic actors in the frame is close or not determine the boundary of the diplomatic space. Whether the diplomatic space is big or not limit the selection of the diplomatic activities and diplomatic tools. The United States of America ignored the traditional interests and practical policy of allied states, which caused the result of losing military supports and political cooperation of the UK and France; At the same time, the U.S. exaggerated the strategic ambitions of China and the U.S.S.R and put too much power in this region. South Vietnam became a strategic dilemma to the U.S., narrowing American diplomatic space. But the complicated interaction between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. caused the situation that the military confrontation was escalated gradually but was under control, that the U.S. obeyed the rule that do not enter Chinese territory and carried out prudent diplomacy with China that left the room for establishing diplomatic relation; The U.S. grasped the preferential condition for the continuity of the war through diplomatic activities with geopolitical countries of the war. It is clear that diplomatic space is the important pre-request of realizing state interests and diplomatic subjects should judge it correctly and reasonably utilize it.
