"Rear children" is a heavy topic in China today, not only for the shocking situation these children suffered, but also because it is an outcome of complicated social problems in current Chinese society. Therefore, it really becomes a difficult problem for China."Rear children" is a new problem occurred during the transformation of rural society, where large number of labor forces move into cities. Due to the long-term existence of the urban and rural social structure in China and the relatively stagnant of the system reformation, many of the fanners working in the cities cannot bring their children together to the city schools. Because these "rear children" are in their critical stage of personality development, loss of family education in this period will lead to many personality and moral problems. Some researchers mentioned the importance of "rear children" by warning that they might become the ruined generation and the country's new instable factors. It does not only influence the success of individuals, but also the development of rural education, the construction of the new socialist countryside and the socialist harmonious society. Therefore, it is significant to study the "rear children" problem. And this thesis is divided into four parts to investigate the problem using questionnaires and interviews as the main case study method. The first part analyzes the cause of "rear children" problem. The reasons can be categorized as the objective ones and the subjective ones. The objective reasons include: the transfer of rural labor forces, the decline in income from farming, the isolation between urban and rural area caused by household registration system, low consumption of rural life in contrast to high costs of urban life. The subjective reasons include: the transfer from the "survival rational" to the "development rational" among the new generation of farmers, the tone of "no use of study" breeding from the prohibiting employment situation. The second part surveys the Shankeng Central Primary School and Shankeng Middle Schools in Yongjia County of Zhejiang Province, to collect large amounts of data concerning with the rear children's moral status, which is used for further analysis. The third part investigates the family factors that evoke the poor morality of rural children, including family environmental factors, the family functional factors, the behavioral factors of family members and the parent quality factors. Family environmental factors include: the incompleteness of the family structure, the lack of moral education and the low income of the rural families. The functional factors of the family include: the inharmonious of parent-child relationship, the variation of the morality and the generation dependency in education. Family behavioral factors include: children rearing styles, the concept of education and the absence as well as the weakening of parent supervision. The parent quality factors include: the moral qualities of the parents, the education level of the parents and the parent occupation.Based on the above investigation and analysis, the forth part proposed solutions to the "rear children" problem from different aspects, including social system, family, and society, which can be used as a reference for the government. This thesis has the following two features. First, the thesis is based on the real data collected by in-depth survey of the "rear children" in Shankeng of Yongjia County, whose development of moral character is quite typical and representative in the current stage. Second, among many possible causes of the "real children" problem, this thesis selects the distinct perspective of family education theory to analyze the reason for ill morality of "rear children". The formation of the morality problem of "rear children" is also impacted by many other factors, such as adult values, the media, the network, social consumption trends, the social trends, the lack of school education, etc. Because of the space limitation, we only investigate the family factor that has greater influence on the problem, while the other ones are leaved for future research.
