Public Space In Urban Communities Impact On Residents' Social Capital Research

Through investigating the social capital of inhabitants in the two urban residential communities, this dissertation explores the effect of the urban public space on the inhabitants' social capital. It is that the existing and building degree of the public space will influence the inhabitants' social capital. The frequency of using public space is also.Through investigating the two urban residential communities in Huangcun town, Daxing district, in Beijing, the writter concludes the results to the five points. Firstly, according to act in the public space the most inhabitants acquired the new neighbors. So the public space provides an important area for inhabitants to know each other. Secondly, the frequency of using public space, the more inhabitants know each other. Thirdly, inhabitants' satisfaction for the environment of public space is connect with the frequency of using it. That is the more satisfaction, the more frequency of using. Forthly, public space provides an area for inhabitants to the useful information in their daily life. Fifthly, the interaction of inhabitants in the public space can strengthen emotion of neighborhood, enhance the connection of each other and cultivate the desire of human to attend to the public affairs.Judging from the building degree of public space in our urban community, there are still some problems. Take the enterprising community for examples, its public space lacks of planning and be short of community facility. As for commodity community, although it has some plans of development, it unavoidably ignores some real demands of inhabitants. Meanwhile, two kinds of communities are short of public community activities. So it will be a key point that how to connect the development of the public space with inhabitants' public life, and display the function of public space in the process of cultivating inhabitants' social capital.
