In March, 2000, The leader of Taiwan area standed for re-election, the candidate Chen Shuibian of Democratic Progressive Party was elected with faint advantage, and wielded the state power on May 20.Democratic Progressive Party who advocates"Independence of Taiwan"appeared and KMT fell out of power, which indicated that a profound historical change happened in Taiwan. Since Democratic Progressive Party wielded the state power, they carried out"separating from the main land"policy in politics, economy, culture, military and diplomacy in order to cut off Taiwan and Chinese umbilical cord, hence realizing the dream of Taiwan independence.This article is divided into four chapters to discuss and analysis the"separating from the main land"policy. The first chapter discusses the origin of the"separating from the main land"policy from"Taiwan Independence"idea and"Taiwan Independence"route of Democratic Progressive Party; Chapter 2 discusses the theoretical basis and practical need of carrying out"separating from China"policy. Democratic Progressive Party made"Taiwan is a separate nation from Chinese nation""Taiwan culture pluralism""Taiwan culture is different from Chinese culture"to be the theoretical basis of"separating from the mainland", and also in order to consolidate its power; Chapter 3 is the main body of this article, organizing and analyzing the content of"separating from the main land"policy in politics, economy, culture, military and diplomacy. Chapter 4 discusses its effect and future. The essence of"separating from the mainland"policy is"advancing Taiwan Independence gradually". It affected the inner political situation, the development of economy of Taiwan Island and the process of the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. But the"separating from the main land"policy ran counter to the aspiration of the Chinese people and Taiwan people, but it cannot cut off the origin of the culture, and the economy integration of the two sides is an irresistible trend. The unification of the two sides can benefit the people from the two sides. The policy caused Democratic Progressive Party to fall out of power.
