China is a country frequently frustrated by food safety crisis. She also has serious corruption problems.According to this, the paper emphasizes on the relationship between corruption and food safety. We first do some theoretical research and then deplore the situation of China. In the theoretical part,we first show that there are serious problems of market failure in the realm of food safety. So,governmental interruption, although it will cause corruption,is necessary. When the supervising or incentive mechanism is weak, corruption happens between the food-producing enterprise and lower-class governmental official. After this, the lower-class governmental official has to seek protection and promotion from the higher-class governmental official, which needs further corruption. The food sector has to bear the potential rules. This is the deepening of corruption. In this situation, consumers are in the worst condition and market structure of the food sector is also twisted. In order to solve this problem,we should design better institution that can increase the corruption cost of the governmental officials and strengthen the supervision of higher-class governmental officials.Following the theoretical analysis, this paper analyzes the influence of the 'Sanlu Baby Milk Powder Scandal' and the problems that it showed to us.Finally, based on the afore-mentioned research,we reach a conclusion that the newly enacted Food Safety Law can not solve the food safety problem fundamentally until China starts political reform.
