Disadvantaged groups are usually put into two categories. The disadvantaged groups discussed in this paper are social disadvantaged groups. Social disadvantaged groups appear in the process of economy transition and social structure adjustment. Now China is in the specific historical period of development, and because of their specificity, social disadvantaged groups have become the focus of people's attention. The protection of social disadvantaged groups should start with the protection of their rights. That the equal rights are achieved can make the venerable condition of disadvantaged groups change. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part is about the general meaning and characteristics of social disadvantaged groups. The basic connotation of social disadvantaged groups is discussed from the perspective of law. And the meaning of legally protecting social disadvantaged groups is also analyzed and the main content of the rights of social disadvantaged groups is also discussed. The second part focuses on the consequence of the weakening of the rights of social disadvantaged groups. And the origin of legal and social system causing such consequence is also analyzed. The protection system of social disadvantaged groups in China needs to be implemented and this results in the realization of equal rights for social disadvantaged groups facing obstacles. The third part of this paper is about the principles of rights protection for the social disadvantaged groups that are humanism, equality, protection deflection toward social disadvantaged groups, and the construction of the protection system of social disadvantaged groups from the perspective of legislation, law enforcement and judicature.
