East Asia Security Cooperation Model And The Strategic Choice Of China

With the development of economy, China participates more and more in the international affairs. As one of the most important countries, China is facing with some salient problems, such as what kind of image should China establish, what impressions do other countries have and how does China build its own international image. Once the international image built, it will penetrate into others'cognition, form a fixed pattern, and difficultly change in a short time. And it affects the present and future international exchanges deeply, actively promotes or negatively restricts the country's activities in the international community. Therefore, China should make efforts to shape its own international image. The International image involves a wide range of aspects, and has diverse forms to work. With frequent and deep exchanges, the diplomatic activities are getting more and more, which are not only with the local governments, but also with folk groups and masses. Whether with the government or with the public, diplomatic activities are the activities of the two parties, in which one party is improving its impression for the masses of the other country. A good international image will help form a favorable public environment for China, and provide favorable conditions for other activities. For the problems of the positioning of China's international image, the thesis includes a comprehensive overview of the international image, a review of the previous positioning of China's international image and its stereotypes, and a discussion of problems China facing in building its international image under "the theory of harmonious world". After deeply analyzing the concept, factors and roles of the international image, based on the experience of China's previous positioning, the thesis proposes the procedures of positioning and the direction of improvement in order to make China better integrate into the international community.
