College Counselors Authority Of The Status Quo And Improve Strategy

In the work of college students, counselors contact with students most and they the person who connect with students most closely, they charge with the management of students, educate students and help with students in all sides. Practice has proved that authoritative counselor wins understanding and respect of students more easily and has more positive impact on students, thus he can get a good working result.However, in the eyes of college students, the current situation of instructor's authority is not optimistic. Overall, the recognition which is given by students is low and students also give their instructors a low evaluation on the professional, capable and moral elements; specifically include the following areas:the students will be working with counselors, but in fact the students are less satisfied to counselors' work, counselors have little influence on students and they do not play their due role; most of the instructors do not achieve the comprehensive care to the growth of students, but only focus on one aspect; counselors have shown a lack of performance in dealing with psychological problems, learning problems and emergencies, providing less information for students; they are also lack of communication skills; counselors' work attitude, fair and equity are questioned by students and so on. In the survey, we also find that in all aspects of the evaluation on counselors,boys and girls show diversity, such as boys' evaluation is slightly lower than the girls' on the role of counselors played and their methods of man, but in the fair and equity and some other aspects, girls give lower evaluation than boys; in the eyes of science students, counselors are more authoritative, and the authority in the eyes between liberal students and arts students is not very different; compared with non-class cadre, class cadre has a higher evaluation on counselors.At the same time, the research results of five key universities in Beijing area are more or less reflect students' expectations to counselors, students loved experienced teachers more; compared with knowledge and ability, students pay more attention to the work of responsibility of counselor; students aspire their counselors to be their guide but not just focus on their ideological and political education and daily executives.According to the survey results, combining with the authority of theory, I believe that in order to make instructors more authoritative, we must make effort from counselors' own and the institutional level. Counselors have to strengthen their own morality, professionalism, ability to literacy, taking the professional road initiatively; we must give counselors a clear position, improve counselor from their selection, training, management, security mechanism, providing an institutional guarantee to professional counselors.
