As the students'main activity place, physical environment of classroom has a significant impact on the development of physical and mental health about students especialy elementary students. In order to understand the current status of physical environment of primary school classrooms, this research takes the primary schools in Development zone of DaLian city as investigation objects, and the mainly research methods are inspection and interview. In accordance with the schools'location, they are divided into three areas: agriculture-related area, urban fringe area, built-up areas(that is, we usually call them the rural area, urban fringe area and urban area). According to the stratified random sampling method, we have carried on the sample choice to the primary schools in the three areas, and selected 3 schools in each area, and the overall sample quantity of schools is 9. In the aspect of observation, the research divides the physical environment of classroom into two parts: natural elements and social elements, the mainly observation of the natural elements includes air quality, lighting, noise, color, temperature and humidity and so on; the mainly observation of the social elements includes classroom layout and decoration, illumination, desks and chairs, seating arrangements, teaching equipments and facilities, books and materials and so on.Through the investigation, we find many problems in the current physical environment of primary classroom in the Development zone of DaLian, manifests in the lighting, noise control, color, temperature control, artificial illumination, classroom internal layout and decoration, seating arrangements, desks and chairs, teaching equipments and facilities, books and materials and so on. There are three main reasons: relatively backword educational concepts, such as the lack of humanistic philosophy, the thought of "examination-oriented education" is still dominant and so on; inadequate of educational investment; the relative lack of theoretical research about ecology of education.In order to improve the physical environment of primary classroom, we should adhere to the following principles: security principle, individuality principle, people-oriented principle, sanitary principle, transformation principle, educational principle, usability principle, balance principle, effectiveness principle, and environment friendly principle and so on. Based on these principles, and combined with the questions reflected on the investigation, the research proposes some specific improvement measures, in particular, puts forward the proposal about the setting of accessibility facilities, which reflected the feeling of concern about the students with disabilities, in order to create a good physical environment of classroom for all-round development of the elementary students.
