As an important measure taken in the rural reform in recent years, the issue of land transfer has drawn wide attention and consideration from the academia. Up to now, there are a lot of papers studying the issues of land transfer and rural old age security in the academia. However, there are few researches on the specific impact that land transfer brings upon the rural age old security. From the perspective of sociology and through survey questionnaire and case interview method, this thesis endeavors to study the issue of rural old age security against the backdrop of land transfer.Literature review on rural old age security and land transfer is firstly presented in this thesis, with a detailed description of the changes in the rural old age security after land transfer. Before the land transfer, rural old age security primarily relied on the land old age security and the elders enjoyed an affluent lifestyle and a relative higher living standard. Their household affairs were attended by their spouses and they were frequented by their children. The elders had few leisure activities but most of them kept good spirit. However, after the land transfer, the rural old age security in Village X mainly depends on off-farm work and support from their children. Their living standard drops. The household affairs are attended by their spouses and their children pay fewer visits. The elders have few leisure activities and the mental health of some elders declines. And after the land transfer, the rural old age security in Village G mainly depends on off-farm work and support from their children. Their living standard undergoes no significant changes. The household affairs are attended by their spouses and their children pay fewer visits. The elders have few leisure activities and the mental health of some elders declines. After land transfer, the elders in the two villages undergo different changes. The main reason is that the environment of reemployment in Village G is more favorable than that in Village X after land transfer. Finally, two measures are put forward to tackle the problems in the rural old age security brought about by the land transfer: first, the land transfer system should be improved and second, reasonable and viable rural old age security system should be established.Taking the land transfer as the breakthrough point, this paper has conducted a fresh analysis of the rural social old age security, endeavoring to provide some helpful suggestions for the establishment of a comprehensive and effective rural old age security system.
