Front-line Police Burnout And Personality Characteristics Of The Study

This paper studied, by research and questionnaire,250 front-line polices in one branch of Shanghai, and analyzed the current status of occupational burnout, personality and the relationship between occupational burnout and personality. The results showed that:1,Overall the occupational burnout of the samples studied in this paper was medium. There was medium burnout in the three aspects-emotional exhaustion, dehumanization, personal accomplishment.2,In terms of emotional exhaustion, the degree of occupational burnout of polices showed notable difference caused by the length of service as a policeman. With the length of service increases, emotional exhaustion increased to 10-15 years of work to the highest Value, and thereafter declined; The degree of occupational burnout of polices showed notable difference caused by the polices were been soldiers or were not. There is lower emotional exhaustion of polices were been soldiers. From the personal accomplishment aspect, there are significant differences between women and men. The personal achievement of women is higher than the men's. In the terms of dehumanization, polices were been soldiers have lower degree of dehumanization3,According to the result of Sixteen Personality Factor Questionnaire, the group showed a higher Lliveliness, Privateness, Social boldness; lower Apprehension, Vigilance and Sensitivity.4,The personalities of the front line police presented notable gender differences in three aspects-Warmth, Reasoning and Apprehension. Women showed greater warmth than men, men showed more Reasoning and Apprehension than women. From the view of age, there were the significant differences in four traits-reasoning, sensitivity, abstractedness and self-reliance. Reasoning would decreased with the increase of age; so that for sensitivity; abstractedness in the 35-45 age group reached the highest value, and then decreased rapidly; and self-reliance in the age 35-45 Section of the lowest, Significantly lower than the other two age groups.5,The findings on the relationship between the occupational burnout of the front line polices and their personality were as follows.With regard to the three aspects of occupational burnout, emotional exhaustion is positively related to Reasoning, Apprehension and Tension. Emotional exhaustion is negatively related to Emotional Stability, Liveliness and Perfectionism.The impression for emotional exhaustion from high to low is Tension, Emotional Stability, Apprehension, Liveliness, Perfectionism and Reasoning. Personal accomplishment is negatively related to Perfectionism. Dehumanization is positively related to Tension.
