As one of the three elements of language, vocabulary is the basis of English learning. One of the main problems the senior high school students meet with when they learn English is vocabulary learning. Vocabulary teaching is the main method for students to master vocabulary and its importance has already drawn attention of researchers both at home and abroad.New English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School (here refers to New Standards) issued in 2003 by Education ministry not only requires a larger vocabulary of students but also the ability to use it. Vocabulary teaching has changed more or less in some ways since the New Standards came into effect, and every senior high school is positively exploring every means to improve vocabulary teaching.At present, a new model of instruction, known as "guided learning plan", is being widely practiced in many senior high schools in China. "Guided Learning Plan", also known as "Learning Plan Guidance" refers to the model in which guided learning plan is a carrier, guided learning is an approach that teachers guide students automatic learning and they fulfill teaching tasks through their joint effort. This model has its advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, in order to better utilize the guided learning plan to improve English vocabulary teaching and learning, the author investigates teachers and students from a senior high school to find out the advantages and disadvantages of this model through teachers'and students'feedback. Then the author designed a better guided learning plan in the view of students'needs to encourage the students'vocabulary learning. In order to verify its effectiveness, the author carried out an experiment in two classes. The result shows that the model of guided learning plan is better than traditional teaching model. But one more point the researcher wants to make is that when he designs and carries out this model, he should take a serious attitude.
