The development of any university can not do without discipline construction that is the basic and core work in the university.For one university the development level of discipline has become an important basis for judging its strength,So in recent years universities strengthen the discipline construction by all ways and a large amount of theoretical research results have come into being.However,many practical problems still plagued institutions of higher education and departments of research management,for example,lack of a definite self-positioning and much research work is repeat.The reason is that most of the current study is based on theoretical analysis and the effect is not significant to solve practical problems.Therefore,a feasible paradigm of practical operation is urgently needed.Scientific research as the basic carrier is the key and premise for discipline construction.Research has shown that among the indicators scientific research is most closely related to the status of discipline construction and the effectiveness of discipline construction depends largely on the level of scientific research.Meanwhile,scientific research can be quantified and be objectively evaluated.In the paper we take the education discipline in S university as an example and analyse the teachers'relevant paper published from 2007 to 2009 with bibliometric methods.The researches of education discipline in S university are respectively classified into different fields in different ways according to the key words.According to research themes they can be grouped into curriculum and teaching , education,economy and management and teacher education and professional development so on . And according to the type of education they can be divided into higher education,primary and secondary education and vocational education so on.By analyzing each category as well as comparative study,we can sum up what is the more focused research direction and what is the advantages for S university . At the same time , the research direction , H index ,department of each teacher and cooperation with each other have been analyzed in this paper.The analysis not only reveals the layout of education in S University but also allows us to clear the strength of each research area which provide some reference for the development planning and implementation in the future.In addition,the result of bibliometric analysis of teachers'papers is conducive to some other areas.For example,selecting and training academic leaders,playing the principle leaders'academic cohesion role and improving teacher research information file.The study shows that bibliometric analysis by research papers on discipline construction in practice is feasible,then other disciplines and other universities can learn from this way.
