With the development of the global economy and the deepening of social reform,instrumental education has undoubtedly become the main theme of contemporary highereducation. Higher education is now beset by the depletion of seeking truth, goodness andbeauty. Therefore college students’ suicides and homicides are becoming rife in today’ssociety. How to strike a balance between tool and value in the field of education andadhering to the principle of fostering people is a question worth taking into account forevery educator.Since the American scholar jay Donna walt proposed and practiced the thought of LifeEducation in1968, the concept has been gradually accepted by many countries in theworld and put into establishment and promotion in practice. Life Education originated inthe United States,it was first proposed as a prevention of suicide of the youth. However,natural life is only human life’s premise of existence and material carrier. Whatdifferentiates men from animals is human spiritual life.The object of College students’ ideological and political education is in fact collegestudents themselves. It is such a type of education that makes colleges students complywith some political ideology or morals of a certain society in an era. As an importantcontent of ideological and political work in colleges or universities, life education is themajor guarantee of training qualified talents in universities and colleges. Presently, collegestudents’ suicide phenomenon is so rife as to draw the attention of society to life difficulty.From2004to2013, both Ma Jiajue’ homicide and Fudan university students’ poisoningcase reflect students’ ambiguous understanding of life and the lack of affirmation for life.So we have to conduct life education from multiple levels, not only to teach youngsters tocherish life, but also to help them realize the essence of life, understand the meaning of lifeand create the value of life.According to the questionnaire survey statistical data and theCultivation of Ethic Thought class in colleges, this dissertation discussed the relationshipbetween life education and the ideological and political education, and then, puts forward aadvice that combines life education with political and ideological education.
