Research On The Quality Cultivation Of Counselors In Maritime Vocational Colleges

The quality of counselors is a very important part in higher vocational education management, which affects the quality of the navigational students a lot. This paper is based on raising higher navigational talents in this new era, aiming at improving the quality of counselors in higher vocational education. The author did a survey in some maritime colleges, analyzed problems about counselors’ daily work and their causes and proposed some strategies based on the survey.This paper falls into six parts. The first part is an introduction to basic definitions about counselors, higher vocation and maritime education. In this part, the author analyzes the purpose and significance of raising the quality of counselors in maritime higher vocational education. The second part is some theories on policies, rules, realistic needs analysis about the study of the quality of the counselors. The third part is an investigation on current situation about counselor’s work in higher vocational education. The author did an investigation on this in Tianjin Maritime College and Jiangsu Maritime College and analyzed the results. The fourth part is an analysis on the quality of the counselor’s team, the composition, the transfer and the training of counselors. In the fifth part, the author analyzes the reason for the problems which exist in the counselor’s team. The factors which influence the quality of counselors include relative policies, counselor’s consciousness, training system and management. The last part is some proposals on how to raise the quality of the counselor team in higher education, especially in maritime schools. The proposals are based on the analysis of rules and regulations, standards for promotion and management of counselors.The whole paper is a discussion on the requirements for counselors in maritime schools for higher vocational education, through the survey on the current situation about counselors in maritime schools. The author made some suggestions on the approaches and methods of raising the quality of counselor team, for the reference of fostering more navigational talents in higher vocational schools.
