A Study Of Improving Counselors’ Qualities In Vocational Colleges Based On KSAIBs

The higher vocational education, with the increasing number of the colleges and expanding of the scale, has become an important part of our flourishing higher education. It’s clear that the rapidly-developed higher vocational education has made our higher education enter into the phase of popularization. By 2012, there have been 1288 vocational colleges with enrollment qualification in our country, and the student body has topped 10,000,000. If one counselor is appointed in charge of 200 students, there will be nearly 50,000 counselors in all in our country. Although the vocational colleges is a new type in our education, the increase of the number is surprising. There is a law of development that when a type of new things booms to a great number, it’s necessary to pay attention to the construction of connotation to develop in a long-term benign track.Counselors in vocational colleges should manage, guide and excel in the ideological and political work in view of the quality and vocational characteristics of the students. Therefore, it is essential to analyze the factors affecting the counselors’ quality-improving, to find out the causes, to seek out the solutions and then to make out the countermeasures, in the hope of cultivating and arousing the enthusiasm of the counselors, helping them accumulating knowledge and bettering their skills and competences.The study conducted a survey of six higher vocational colleges in Hebei Province. The findings from the questionnaire showed that counselors have problems in some aspects such as knowledge, sentiment, behavior, skill, competence and training. With the guidance of the KSAIBs theory and with the objective of improving the counselors’ qualities, the study has done some research in four aspects-- that is goals, scheme, evaluation system, information feedback and scheme adjustment.To achieve the aim, the writer uses documentary method, questionnaire survey, comparative method and statistic approach. On the basis of the research methods, the writer put forward four ways to improve counselors’ qualities.Being professionalized and specialized can guarantee higher qualities of the counselors. Effective management system can stimulate the enthusiasm of them. Career planning can urge them to see their work as lifelong, and training can improve their knowledge, competences and skills.Furthermore, in the paper, the writer suggests that the teaching mode of watching, studying, practicing and researching should be used to train the counselors. The study will bring far-reaching and positive influence to the quality-improving of the counselors.
