Nowadays, as knowledge economy develops faster and faster, the growth of the country is closely combined with human development. Because of fierce international competition, education development and talent competition have been brought about. Gifted children, as high-quality human resources, the education and development of which have received great attention. Many countries, especially the United States, have put "gifted and talented education" on the agenda. Gifted and talented education of the U.S has a long history of more than one century. It stands on the top of the world and has made a significant contribution for the gifted and talented education in the world. Gifted and talented education in our country starts late, and is still in early stage. Compared with the United States there is a big gap. Our country must learn from the United States, absorbing its experience in order to shorten the development cycle and provide the level of gifted education in China.In order to study US’s gifted and talented education systematically, this article divided six chapters. Chapter one gives a brief introduction about the background and sense of the topic selection, literature review and the research methods. Explains what is gifted and talented children and gifted and talented education. Chapter two illustrates the history of gifted and talented education in the United States. Tracing the history of the development, I explore the characters of each stage and try to analyze the factors affected the development. Chapter three illustrates the gifted and talented education policy in the United States. Both federal and state governments attach great importance to gifted and talented education, and have made pertinent policies and laws to guarantee its development. Chapter four introduces several significant institutions of gifted education in United States, which have made great differences to this field. Chapter five describes abundant resources for gifted and talented education, including faculty resources and learning materials. The last chapter would try to provide some suggestions to improve gifted education in China.
