Geography homework is the supplement and extension to classroom teaching, as well as an important and essential part of the teaching process. It is the important way to help students consolidate the knowledge, improve the ability, develop good study habits, as well as through students’ homework teachers can find the problems, to solve the problems and improve the teaching. In the whole link of geography teaching, it has an irreplaceable role in geography homework and becomes the "bridges" between teachers and students.With the implementation of the geography curriculum reform and quality education, geography homework is endowed with new contents and new tasks, however, the disadvantages and problems of traditional geography homework directly affect the effectiveness of the geography homework.This article embarks from the interpretation of the concept of homework and illustrates the meaning of effective geography homework. By reference to a large number of domestic and foreign research theory, the latest research about homework and implementing the questionnaire, from the content and type of geography homework assignments, students learning habits, teacher evaluation methods, etc., to understand the current situations and existing problems of the geography homework and to find out the cause of the current geography homework lack of effectiveness. At the same time, based on the theory of geography teaching and research of effective teaching, I practiced the junior high school geography homework content, seeking for the idea about improving the effectiveness of geography homework. The innovation of this article is based on the junior high school geography homework practice—the "Surging Yellow River" to compare and analyze about the layout, design, marking and commenting several links, putting forward suggestions to improve the efficiency of homework.This article final conclusion is as follows:First:In order to improve the effectiveness of the geography homework, put forward the principles of geography homework effective layout and design:hierarchical and different; exploratory and practical; living and interesting; caring and humanistic; Flexible and independent; various and multiple.Second:Through practice of "surging Yellow River", further concluded that suggestions for the improvement of operation efficiency:(1) Reasonable assignment, clear requirements. Therefore, tell students’needs to do in each link, so that students learning is more purposeful and targeted, and the teachers are more likely to achieve the desired effect.(2)The elaborate homework, improve the learning efficiency.First of all, the quantity is moderate, Second, according to the school conditions, teachers can assign interesting homework, change forms and types to make homework flexible and enrich the students’ learning experience.Third,the difficulty is moderate, according to the students’ learning level, learning interest and learning ability difference to layer. Elasticity presetting homework meet the needs of different levels of students.(3) Timely correcting homework, dynamically generatedJob evaluation process should be a process of training students thinking and improving the homework evaluation. Teacher should grasp the students problems. Solving problems timely help students out of the knowledge erroneous zone.(4) Strengthen the homework management, promote the students’ progress. Students are suggested to create the wrong topic, improve students’ learning consciousness, promote reflection, and strengthen self management ability.
