With the continuous pushing of new course reform, applications and researches of case teaching method have gained great achievement in the geography teaching of high school. But a lot of researches are mainly focus on the process of case teaching, links of implements, the analysis of teaching materials and the others. On the contrary, researches of designing geography teaching case are unrewarded. Furthermore, most of the cases are designed by the courses and experts, which cannot satisfy the needs of the students of the all areas based on the case diversification and localization. The high school geography teachers are the direct organizers of teaching, most of them understand the geography teaching situation and student learning situation, for this reason, they design teaching case should be more targeted and can greatly improve the efficiency of teaching, professional level of geography teachers, and interest of students. Based on above, this paper adopts documentary method, questionnaire survey method and content analysis method, mainly talk about the current situation and problems of the high school geography teachers whom how to design the teaching case, to provide the designing ideas of geography teaching case for high school geography teachers.Firstly, this paper summarizes the background and significance, current researches at home and abroad, research methods and technical road. Secondly, on the basis of the relevant concepts defined, it summaries the theory base of designing geography teaching case and the significance of professional development for high school geography teachers. Thirdly, this paper makes a questionnaire survey in two dimensions: cognitive level and operational level, consists of12questions, chooses about70high school geography teachers from Hubei, Hebei, Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui, Guangdong. Shaanxi, Hunan, Jilin, Shanxi, Chongqing, Sichuan, Guizhou and other14provinces as an object of investigation. Through the analysis of these three parts:basic situation of teachers, the cognition of geography teaching case and operational skill of teachers, find out the problems in the designing of geography teaching case of high school geography teachers. Then do the analysis of its causes from the following aspects: the quality of teachers, the function of schools and educational administrative departments, the present exam policies, and so on. Finally, based on issues arising from the investigation, relevant materials, the general designing ideas of geography teaching case are given from the basic components, designing principles, designing methods and writing ideas. Then, it takes the sustainable development of agriculture in the Guanzhong Plain and the investigation of Mount Li as two cases explain writing ideas of geography teaching case.Through research, this paper has got several conclusions below:(1) Most of the high school geography teachers have knowledge about with a certain degree of awareness and understanding included concept, connotation, basic components and categories of geography teaching cases. But there are many teachers haven’t known it very much, they still need improvement.(2) Most of the high school geography teachers can design appropriate geography teaching cases combining the fact of the students, but some geography teachers’ consciousness and enthusiasm is poorer about the designing teaching case. In addition, most of the high school geography teachers don’t understand designing principles, evaluation standards of geography teaching case, and they have no clear designing ideas about the designing teaching case and have poor-quality cases which influence the teaching effects. So, the teachers should be given more guidance in theory, and enhancing their abilities to design geography teaching case.(3) High school geography teachers’ ability to design geography teaching case can not be enhanced neither help of schools and educational administrative departments nor geography teachers’ own efforts. So, schools and educational administrative departments should do a good job of training geography teachers and strengthen supervision. Geography teachers should improve their own theoretical accomplishment and ability of practice with learning theory knowledge and designing teaching case.(4) When high school geography teachers design geography teaching cases, should be under the guidance of related principles, according to the new standards of curriculum and content of courses to determine the appropriate case theme, to make the comprehensive case background, to offer the typical case event, to make the objective case analysis and evaluation, to do the profound case reflection, in order to the best using effect of geography teaching cases.In conclusion, this paper can help geography teachers understand the blemishes and shortcomings of designing teaching case, and provide guidance how to design teaching case for them. However, the research of this paper is lack of the teaching practice and results analysis. So this part should be kept the intense research continuously.
