’STS’ is the abbreviation of Science. Technology and Socieyt, that is theabbreviation of “Science,Technology and Society" STS is the new stage of thedevelopment of Science and Technology, which is the product of reflecting the lifeconditions of human being. Since the STS education was introduced into China in1980s. the content of the chemistry courses in the middle schools in China embodyingthe STS educational thought has been increased gradually, which has attracted themost attention in the curriculum setting reform.Then how the STS educational ideal is introduced into the chemistry textbook inthe middle schools at the beginning? We can ifnd by referring to the literature that, theteaching materials of Chemistry (Shanghai Education Publishing House Edition) inthe first phase course reform in Shanghai completed during1988-1997have theobvious STS features, which is one set of the science teaching materials accepting theSTS educational thought relatively early, this paper is, by managing and analyzing thecontent of interviewing the teaching materials writers and the teaching staff of theChemistry (Shanghai Education Publishing House Edition), to descirbe the processand method of introducing the STS thought into the Chemistry teaching mateiralsfrom the most authentic perspective and examine the experience of the early phasepractice of the STS educational thought in the pirmary and secondary education inChina, therefore to put forward the valuable advisory opinion to the current scienceeducation.This thesis includes six parts. The first part is the ‘Research Overview、whichgives a brief and systematic introduction to the STS education, including the origin ofthe STS education, the connotation of the STS education, and the features of the STSeducation. The second part is the ’Research Method and Process,,which explains thecause of choosing the ‘history dictation method" and the main perspective of thisresearch. The third part is "Chemistry (Shanghai Education Publishing House Edition)and the STS Educational Values、which analyzes and explains in accordance with theinterview records that the teaching materials of Chemistry (Shanghai EducationPublishing House Edition) adhere to the values of the citizenship education, endowthe chemistry with more and more irch educational value, and guide the students toconcern the social problems and others. The fourth part is the research of "Chemistry (Shanghai Education Publishing House Edition) and the STS teaching content’,which interprets the origin and choice of the topicalization assumption of the structureof the teaching materials, thinking on the topic content and the method of treating thetopic chapters and the subject chapters. The iffth pari is the ’Teaching Implementationof Chemistry (Shanghai Education Publishing House Edition)?,which analyzes therestrictions and obstacles in the process of implementing the teaching materials, forexample, the teaching mateirals being restricted by the course standards, the teachingmaterials of the subject system more suitable for the chemistry test and other factors.The sixth part is the ’Conclusion’, which explains the admitted experience of thetopicalized STS, and that the STS course cannot be considered as the substitution ofthe subject systematic course, and puts forward the relfection on the compilationexperience of the teaching materials of Chemistry (Shanghai Education PublishingHouse Edition).
