The purpose of the present study is to investigate the empathy ability of preschool teachers and offer some suggestions according to the present situation of the preschool teachers’empathy ability.30preschool teachers from three kindergartens in N are selected in the investigation and a questionnaire adapted from Interpersonal Reactivity Index-C (IRI-C) is adopted in the present study. The present research, by using questionnaire, picture measurement and a one-day field observation on the life of preschool teachers and preschool children in their class, examines30preschool teachers’empathy ability. Software of Social Science17.0(SPSS17.0) is used to analyze the date of investigaten and observation. And the results are as follows:(1) the empathy score of preschool teachers in N is relatively high as a whole:the scores they got in the scale of Interpersonal Reactivity Index-C are higher than the average.(2) Preschool teachers’empathy ability in actual educational situation is relatively low, for their scores of empathy ability in actual educational situation are bwer than that in the scale of Interpersonal Reactivity Index-C.(3) As to the specific dimensions, the scores of Perspective-taking, Personal distress, Empathic concern and Fantasy are lower than the corresponding scores in IRI-C scale. In addition, there is a significant difference between the scores of Perspective-taking, Empathic concern and Imagination in actual educational situation and the corresponding scores in IRI-C scale. But the scores of Personal distress are not significantly different from the scores on IRI-C scale.Based on the research results, the present study reflects on the actual performance of preschool teachers in teaching, and discovers that individual observational ability, attentive listening ability, communication ability and view on children all exert influence on preschool teachers’empathy for children in actual teaching. Finally, according to the problems existing in preschool teachers’real empathy ability, the present research proposes some educational suggestions on the basis of foreign countries’program of empathy cultivation.
