High school students major in fine art (art students) are a minority in the entiregroup of high school students, whose high school period of learning is quite differentfrom those normal highs. So at present it becomes a particularly important point how tofind the educational regulation on art students and conduct them to study well,especially to learn History, one of those minor subjects in high school period. Thenumber of high school students who confess to art study is also growing, as a result ofthe academic expansion in the majors of fine arts over recent years, as well as the lowentrance grades in the college entrance exam. Without a solid academic knowledgefoundation and good study habits during the junior high period, devoting much of thetime on art subjects studying while a little time on academic ones, this special group ofstudents mostly have great difficulties in learning academic subjects. As a so-called“less important”,“minor” and basic course, history, in the eyes of art students, is in asecondary position, at which most of them feel bored and tired. They don’t like historyteachers, and don’t like history, too. Such situation of learning has not caused enoughattention.With the author’s many years’ teaching practice in a high school of fine arts andthe theory of pedagogy and psychology, a deep discussion and research has been carriedout on how to inspire and cultivate art students’ learning interest in History. In this paper,the author suggests that a good study interest can inspire students’ learning motivation,thus will form a strong desire and power to acquire knowledge, in which case, studentswould like to participate in the teaching interaction in class, and tend to hold a sustainedattention to the contents of the class; while for those students with weak learningmotivation, on the contrary, no learning desire, even learning rejection, could be seen onthem. So I held an investigation to find out students’ present situation of learningHistory. After the investigation, I analyzed the influential factors of learning History,discussed the premise and guarantee of inspiring and cultivating art students’ learninginterest under the guidance of the principle of the pedagogy and psychology, and finallyput forward strategies how to inspire and cultivate students’ learning interest in History.Strategies include: the methods of stimulating art students’ desire of learning Historysuch as history-reality linking, the creation of the historical situation to arouse artstudents’ learning interest, and the positive evaluation on students’ learning, etc.
