Teacher-student interaction is one of the most important factors that affect students’ academic achievements, teachers’ career development and teaching quality. Positive and effective classroom interaction between teachers and students is more advantageous to achieve the three-dimensional goals of classroom teaching. The new curriculum reform stresses humanist. As the reform carrying on constantly, some changes and improvements about teacher-student interaction have happened in the English classroom of the primary school. Teachers begin to pay close attention to the students, and teaching also has achieved certain results. However, the existing problems and shortcomings also cannot be ignored during reform. The frequently asking questions prove that teachers still dominate the classroom, and there is something wrong with their understanding of teacher-student interaction. These factors seriously affect the quality and the effect of classroom interaction between teachers and students.This research has referred to the domestic and foreign research results about interaction between teachers and students, and has adopted literature method, observational method, interviewing method and survey method. The research has chosen specific classes of a primary school in Xi’an as objects to research. Through the study about the situation of teacher-student interaction in English classes, the author has found that there are some main problems in classroom questioning, lectures, class discussion and emotional interaction, such as focusing on the form on interactive mode; unequal opportunity on interactive subjects; imbalance on interactive status; low participation during interactive process. And also the research has analyzed the main factors that influencing the effectiveness of class interaction between teachers and students from the teacher level, the student level and the school-level. Firstly, teachers are organizers, participants and instructors of classroom teacher-student interaction. The factors including the obstacles of teachers’ roles, teachers’ educational concepts and teachers’ professional quality affect the main role of teachers and these factors are the key to the realization of effective interaction. Secondly, individual differences of students, students’ interest and motivation also restrict the effect of teacher-student interaction. Thirdly, class size and classroom environment are important factors affecting teacher-student interaction. After investigation, reflection and analysis of teacher-student interaction of middle-grade primary school English class, the author has a better awareness and understanding of the issues. On the basis of this and the analysis of reasons, the author puts forward some countermeasures and suggestions, that is, changing traditional role of primary school English teachers; improving teaches’ professional quality; stimulating students’interest in learning English, improving students’ participation; strengthening emotional interaction, and creating a good atmosphere in classroom teaching. The implementation of these measures will help to improve the effectiveness of teacher-student interaction and English classroom teaching in primary school.
